I am looking to upgrade my video card and I have come across this ATI Radeon 9800 256mb DDR full retail boxed for £125 delivered. Is it any good for todays games and will it play Medal of Honer Pacific Assault with any problems ?????????
Thanks

Yes, it will be good for today's games. It is not cutting edge like the 6800 GT/Ultra or ATI 800, but then its £175 cheaper, so relatively good value.

I'm not sure that MOH PA will run well on any card, as the game has a number of issues. I know of gamers with 6800 Ulta cards who find the game runs very badly...so this might not be the best game to test your new card with !

And although it's not cutting edge anymore, it certainly copes well with the likes of Doom 3 and Half Life 2. And having the extra 128mb really does help with games like these.

If I were you I would spend an extra £20 pounds and get a 6600 GT !! beats the Radeon 9800 ( which is a very very good card ) hands down.

Also where have you found a Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB so cheap??? evrywhere I look the ATI 9800Pro 128MB card is £134.00 inc vat + p&p

ALSO non- PRO / XT model 9800's have 128bit memory compared to 256bit memory whcih is not good.

You would be better off with a 9800PRO 128MB than a 9800 256MB.

I have the 9800pro 256mb version. Wouldn't want to advise on the lesser card as I have no experience of it.

I have that card and i think for the money you cant beat it..

As for MOHPA...well for £35 it isnt good value at all..the game is bland, bug ridden and unrewarding to play. As for online gaming well i think that will flop to, as most people have panned it..

I had the sam e256 / 128 dillema and plumbed for the 128 Radeon 9800 Pro. I thought it better to get a higher spec 128 than a lower 256. It deals with all games with easy and has caused me no problems whatsoever

PC World Component Centre (click here) have the XFX 6600GT AGP version with 128MB for £140.85 delivered and it stomps all over the 9800 Pro (or XT)

Fora comparison seen anandtech.com click here
