Asus P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP @n Motherboard, Memory compatibility question;

Hi, I am looking to buy the Asus P5Q3 motherboard as listed in the title, on the asus website uk.asus.com is lists the motherboard as being compatible with DDR3 memory. It sais it is compatible with 2000mhz at overclock and 1600mhz,1333mhz,1066mhz as normal. I am looking t obuy some OCZ PC3-16000 Platinum enhanced Bandwidth 2x1024 DDR3 memory which has 2000mhz clock speed as stadard. Will this be compatible?

Thankyou

Perhaps as a safeguard, you should as the suppliers about compatibility. If anything then appears not to be right, then you would have a comeback on whoever gave the advice and supplied the goods.

If you read this OCZ PC3-16000 review click here of the memory, you'll see that it was used with motherboards similar to the Asus P5Q3.

One mentioned, the Asus P5E3 Premium, also has a '2000 overclocking speed' in it's specs click here.

So yes, it'll be compatible - but whether you'll get the best out of it in that particular motherboard is debateable. G

I notice that's a P45 motherboard - any particular reason for choosing it other than it can take DDR3 RAM?

The reason I ask is because there are 'superior' X48 motherboards that support PCI-E in both slots at 16x in Crossfire mode. The P5Q3 supports Crossfire at 8x speed.

Don't know how significant this is in real terms (or to you) - I'm sure there are sites that have done reviews comparing Crossfire at 8x & 16x speeds. G
