Advice for upgrading my gaming PC

Hello. I need advice for upgrading my current PC, which is a little bit outdated. It was able to run almost any game at ultra high settings, but for a couple of months, things have not been that good anymore. This thing could not cope with AC : Unity recently, nor Far Cry 4 and there are plenty of other games coming out next months that I would really love to play. I would like to mention that I am more of a console gamer, but there are certain types of games that I enjoy playing on a PC. I would like to make a long-term investment (if possible) so I do not have to worry about upgrading again six months from now. My budget is about 400$, and this is my configuration:

CPU : Intel Core i5 4590 3.30GhZ GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 1GB DDR5 8 GB RAM 256 GB SSD 1TB HDD

Do I need more money for a consistent upgrade? What parts should I have replaced or upgraded? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

L grade your GPU . The new GTX960 looks like it could suit your needs .
