Advice on price (Dell 5150)

  Thanaset 20:01 23 Jul 2006

Is £400 for the following secondhand Dell reasonable?

Dell 5150
- P4 2.8 GHz
- 2Gb RAM (4 x 512Mb)
- 80Gb HDD
- 128Mb PCI Graphic card
- Media Card Reader
- 56K Modem
- 15" TFT Monitor
- Dell Keyboard & Microsoft Mouse
- Microsoft Windows XP Home

The unit is around 6 months old (that's what the seller told me). I wonder if it's worth £400. Any thought is really appreciated.

19 inch flat panel,
250gb hdd
Pentium D dual core CPU

for £550 brand new with a warranty.

just change the warranty to 1yr collect and return and it goes down to £549.

That seller would be reasonably looking to get 250. 400 is absurd for a monitor that very few would want, GFX if not mentioned is unlikely to be anything fancy probably an ATI 9250 or similar. The P4 range is now gone as such. and 2GB of ram sounds a bit dubious. Sounds to me like another machine has had its 2 512mb sticks nicked and this one has 2x512 also so it was a botch job of sorts.

Personally I would tell them the offers on dells site and ask them to accept 200 and see what they say. anything more than 250 however is absurd.

This basic office workhorse will not shine in the games dept but will do all the basic surfing and wp required of it.
Its saving grace is the 19" TFT that comes with it, Dell are charging £213 for this alone this week, so if you were thinking of buying the TFT then this is for you as that will make the rest of the system a bargain.

I agree, no more than 250quid.

If you wish Dell will allow a reduction of £150 if you do not need a monitor for systems with 17" and £200 for systems with 19"

I'd buy new unless the price you have been offered comes down substantially

Just placed an order on Dell website for the 5150.
