Hi,

I want to upgrade my graphics card.

It will have to be agp (8x) and will be used for Flight Sim X on Vista. no cost limit.

Any advice appreciated.

x1950pro agp is very good and faster than 7800gs.

check that your power supply unit can supply the necessary oomph for higher power graphics

X1950Pro is probably the best AGP card at the moment, although I have read some speculation about an AGP X1950XT being released.

As wjrt says, make sure your psu is up to the job.(check out the detailed power requirements of the card) I'd guess you'll need a 500w from a reputable manufacturer. Don't be tempted by any of the alleged 500w £25 bargains; be prepared to part with £60 or more.

I have a coolermaster 450w psu, so I hope this is powerful enough (click here)

The mobo is a ASUS A8V delux
CPU is Athlon 64 4000+
1 Gig of ram

Current graphics is a ATI 9800.

WOuld the upgrade be worth it? Or should I really be looking at changing the mobo so I can go PCI-E.

You'll see a massive difference with an X1950pro. No need to scrap your current mobo / cpu / ram just yet.

If you tend to upgrade your computer in parts then now may be a good time to switch to PCI-express. You can replace your motherboard for about £55 click here so when the time comes to upgrade your processor, there is no need to replace your graphics card again.

If your next upgrade is likely to be a complete overhaul then go for the AGP card.
