£500 pc - any recommendations?

I have been asked to advise a buyer of a £500 pc. Models considered were HP 7610 INTEL CELERON 430 MOBILE PROCESSOR & PACKARD BELL 2470 INTEL PENTIUM D 820 PROCESSOR + 19" WIDESCREEN TFT MONITOR both from pc world click here

On paper the Packard Bell spec looks better, altho' I don't like the brand and rate HP much higher. Furthermore I don't rate PC World as a supplier.

I looked at Dell for an alternative and the Dimension E520 comes in at £528.99 today (I am sure it was a lot cheaper yesterday?) with Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Processor (1.86GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB). Is this a better buy?

Have a look at click here good prices & 1st class service & customer support.

Thanks for that The Brigadier, but the buyer would prefer to buy a 'well known brand' - hence my Dell suggestion! Unfortunately I have no personal experience of Novatech, whilst I have used Packard Bell & Medion (at home) and HP & Dell (at work).

I think Dell are good value and reasonably reliable?

I would really appreciate any comments on the processors in the 3 pc's listed in my original post.

I have a recent (november 06) PC from Novatech at £514 It is a beauty I wish I had bought my 2 previous computers from there. Ordered over the phone told delivery would be 7 days ,but, 4 days later receive a phone call to say it would be delivered the next day .It was delivered as they said at 1725hrs next day .Well packed 6 CD`s for back up of various installed items clear and precise instruction book .

If "the buyer" wants to go for a known brand then PCWorld is fine, but as the "advisor" you should look to see the best option you can & in my view Novatech would offer better value for money, customer service & 1st class support.

But in the end it's up to you.

Novatech may be excellent pcs, but unfortunately they are not under consideration.

Any comments on the Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Processor (1.86GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB) as supplied with the Dimension E520 appreciated.
