2.1 PC speakers. A few choices.

Suddenly decided to upgrade from my old Labtec Spin 50 stereo jobbies (1 watt RMS each) to a decent 2.1 set-up.

Choices:-

1) Logitech X-230, £39.99 anywhere.

2) Altec Lansing VS2121, £29.99 Maplins (Supposed to half price).

3) Altec Lansing 121i, £24.99 Maplins.

4) Logitech R20, £29.99 (I think!).

Is the second one any good? I know it's a discontinued model, but the price is tempting for the specification. Which one would be the best purchase, do you reckon?

Altec Lansing are good; I'd be happy with number two or three.

Accoustic Energy Aego2 for me, but they are a bit out of your budget at c.£80. Wonderful for little speakers; close your eyes and you wouldn't guess their size.

I also have a pair of Creative 2.0s (which have a 2.1 equivalent) on the family PC, and they are pretty respectable for cheap speakers. Bearing in mind that I'm a hifi buff. They were in the £35 range, so the 2.1 equivalent should not be much more than that.

okay. Does anyone know any reliable sites that review PC speakers, btw? This site used to have a Top Five feature, but I can't see it here now.......

JBL Encounter 2.1 speakers look good and sound even better, though again a bit out of your budget. click here

Thanks, but I'm not paying that.

I'm getting cold feet about this now. Some of the reviews I've looked at show plenty of problems with these speakers. I'll make do with what I have. Topic abandoned!

Hehe, I actually went and bought the Logitech X-230 today. Works alright. Any tips on how to get the best performance out of these speakers?

Here's a rough pic. of my setup:-

Jeez, that looks terrible........ It's a 5.0 megapixel image reduced to 45% of it's original size. Any tips on how to get a non-jaggy pic. online from a digital camera?
