1.6 Mobile Celeron M vs 3000+

I don't have a laptop and considering buying a cheap one like the comet deals at the moment which is:

1.6 Ghz Intel Celeron Mobile , 40Gb and 256mb Ram.

I will be using to for internet and a bit of developing using compliers and no games. Will this be enough in comparasion to a cheap pc of AMD 3000+ speed?

Thanks in advance

To give you an idea of the difference between a 1.6celeron mobile and a 3000+ my acer laptop can encode a video in 22 minutes, the celeron my sister has (it is a 1.5ghz) takes 37 for the exact same video.

Also it is a comparison between an AMD sempron mobile 3000+ 1.8ghz and Intel celeron mobile 1.5ghz.

I bought one of the Comet £299 laptops on behalf of a mate. Whilst setting it up i found it to be reasonably fast.

To get the best out of it I would definitely go for a ram upgrade. It has one empty slot accessed via a removeable panel on the underside so you could install an extra 256/512MB ram.

not against the AMD mobile but a AMD desktop 3000+ machine?
