Upgrade 4 yr old 27" iMac HD to 1 TB flash

Before it's 3rd yr was up I returned my iMac under Applecare as it was performing like a G3. Apple did all their tests, wiped my HD and did a clean system install, and quite frankly it was no different. My blazing stallion i7 had turned into a cart horse. Of course Apple said it was fine and they could find nothing wrong - yeah right!!!

This has now become much worse, and I have to turn on the machine around 30 mins before I want to use it each day to allow it to 'warm up' - The HD spins and whirs forever during this period, and nothing will open fast, or as it should do.

I had an idea to replace the HD with a SSD unit, and maybe upgrade the current 8 GB RAM to the max - Has anyone tried this and found they had a new machine, as this is what I am hoping for.

It sounds like your hard drive is on the way out.

I upgraded the HD in my 2009 21.5" iMac to a 5TB Western Digital unit, and replaced the superdrive with a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD. I combined the two to form a 'fusion drive'. The machine now outperforms my 2014 MacBook Pro.
