New Memory Module for EMachine E520

  nelie 19:06 30 Aug 2010

I have bought a new memory chip for my daughters laptop - an E Macnine E520, currently 1GB, Vista Basic.

I ordered an extra memory module from an Ebay shop which said it was a compatible module.

The new module is a Samsung 2GB 2R x 8 PC2 - 4200S - 444 - 12 - ZZ.

The current module that is in the machine is a Samsung 1GB 2R x 16 PC2 - 5300S - 555 - 12 - A3.

Whichever order i put the modules in the machine (2GB/1GB or 1GB/2GB) the laptop will not turn on with the new module added. I have taken the battery out and tried the module on its own - no luck.

Is there anything i am missing? I have added memory to PC's before with no problems. Is it the wrong module?

Thanks for reading

The memory you have bought is slower than the original module and normally if all other values are met is backwards compatable.
Have you tried the 2 gig module on its own...

My hunch is the memory you have bought is NOT compatable.
