Network Share between XP machines

I would like to create a shared folder on my XP Pro desktop to allow me to backup my XP Pro lap top.

I have created a shared folder on the desktop, which I can map as a shared network drive to the same machine.

When I try mapping the folder as a shared network drive on the laptop machine I get a login prompt asking me for a user name and password. Normally the account on the desktop does not have a password.

I have tried adding a password, but I can never get past the logon prompt.

Any suggestions welcome.

Desktop machine is XP SP2, and I have tried disabling the firewall

Thanks for this. I've successfully managed to attach to the network share from another (2000) machine, which didn't ask me for a user name or password at all.

However, when I try to map the drive from my XP machine it constantly asks me for my username and password. Is there some sort of setting within XP which is different when mapping a network drive ?
