Mac and Windows sharing broadband

I have a Mac running OS X 10.3.9 and a Windows PC running XP Prof on one desk next to each other and a broadband ntlworld/VirginMedia connection.

I'd like to be able to share this broadband connection between the two computers. They both work fine one at a time when I swap over the Ethernet cable, but what equipment do I need to be able to share the broadband connection? I'm not bothered about it being wireless; wired will do.

You need a router - that much I know.

What type I'm not so sure about as you are on cable- hopefully this will get you bumped up a little so someone will be able to tell you.
