Mac OS on old PC

Like many out there, I have a couple of 'sacrificial' PCs to experiment on. What's the chances of loading a Macintosh OS on one of them?

It will not work on a PC. You would need a dedicated mac machine to use it. Or a piece of software that would turn a windows machine into an emulator.

VMac "may" run that OS in emulation. click here

So it's a definite no, then, without spending a lot of money!

Take a look here for starters
Emularos work two ways
1. as a softwarre interpretwer or as a sconary operating system
takes a lot of memory and diskpower

Sorry I don't know about OS 8.1. I do know that someone has ran the vmac emulator on the 9.x series.

I could send an email and ask what version was running.

If it did run, as an emulation it would work painfully slow.

You should be able to pick up a mac that would run 8.1 for as little as £50.

Or you may be better off running a free linux distro, which is the backbone of apple. ( I think )

I think it will be more trouble than it's worth, by the sounds. Still, nice to know these things - I didn't realise the hardware was so different. Memory, in particular, is something in short supply on these PCs.
