A Mac modem problem

A friend of my son has bought himself a new Mac but is having problems connecting to the net. He has been told by an 'expert' that the Sagem modem as supplied by Tiscali will not work with a Mac and he has to get a new 'more powerfull one'. I do not know Mac's but I believe he is been sold a load of bull.

Any advice on this would be appreciated by me just more knowledge at the end of the day.

It's not the Modem, I think it will be a Driver problem. as it as to be in a different format

In other words a Windows Driver is no good for a Mac
