mac address

hi to all, i have set up my router(Netgear DG834G 54 Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router)
have found the mac address after run ipconfig etc for the ethernet device to isolate my laptop for extra security, and inputed it in the router set-up.

but each time i do this vista cannot find the wi-fi connection and then have to disable the mac address in the setup to get the wi-fi back on again.

Does anybody know if the name section above where you input the mac address has to correspond to something or can be given any name as i am wondering if this has something to do with it.

If you're using WPA/WPA2 encryption (which you should be) MAC address filtering is hardly worth it.

Additionally are you absolutely sure you have the MAC of the wireless adapter, not a built-in ethernet port?

i am using wpa2 security you say mac filtering is then not required?

the mac address i am using is the one for the ethernet device as far as i can tell, should it be called something else?
