Installing Win 98 on Xp machine

I have a computer running xp Professional and 2 hard disks. I have partitioned both disks. I would like to copy the hard disk of my old 98 machine (using Acronis True Image 9.0) onto an external drive and then copy it to the primary partition of the second hard drive on the XP machine.

Is this possible and how do I get a boot menu when I switch on?

But.......
The whole procedure may prove difficult because...

Restoring an Acronis image of W98 to a different computer (motherboard etc) may not work due to different mainboard drivers.

It can be done, but I hope you have valid installation disks for both OSs in case of trouble.

The intial transfer to an External HD should be OK, it is what comes after that might be a pain.

Dont forget to "salt away" any valuable data first of all!

a word of caution - some modern motherboards will not allow the older os's to be installed. I cannot remember which make or model but at least 1 I have built said it could not work with win98 or ME.
