Formatting the machine with no floppy

  jack 15:59 24 Sep 2010

On a PC with no floppy- How
Have I forgotten - did I ever know?
Hither too I have used a universal floppy to F Disk to format a hard drive.
Now I have a 'Modern' machine come my way that has not floppy.
I need to clear the disk and reinstall - how do I do that?

Did that and Win installed but did not clear the disk- It came back with all what was there before.
I also noticed that According to what selection one makes- it offers various options.
So far it has not come up with the Format option.
Will keep plugging away.

It also occurred to me to disconnect the drive from its parent and connect it via my IDE/USB cable to my machine ,which would then 'see' an external drive- and then do it- Hmm- tomorrow I shall have a play.

jack use Killdisk to remove all on the drive then just restart with OS CD in drive. click here

PS the OS CD if XP will Create Partition Format and load OS

Did you boot from the cd?

Kill disk - Good one - have downloaded it ready for the morrow.
Yes booted from CD as stated and it can on its own come up with different options.

Be sure you are using a microsoft disk and not a manufacturers restore disk or you may find that you could wipe part of the restore function and not be able to install windows.

Wanted to be installed in a Floppy.-
Reasonable I suppose that a program to kill a hard drive could hardly be on any thing else.
Problem then - No floppy on this machine.
So I did what I had thought I could do
That is disconnect the drive from the machine[leave it in situ] and connect it via an IDE/USB cable to my machine, That then read it as an external drive.
Then - Admin Tools.ComputerManagement/Storage- and work through there
That did it.
Reconnect and let Windoze do its stuff on a 'new' drive
Job done.
