Got an old '98 machine in the office with no product key sticker on it. Does anyone know if Windows stores this info anywhere such as the registry. If I can't find it and match it to a particular cd I'm either going to have to buy another OS or wipe the machine and ditch it, according to those nice people at FAST.
its in the registry somewhere - - - someone on this site posted this info ages ago. So, the good news is yes, it is stored, the bad news is I don't know how to get it. :-)
In the RegistryHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Windows, CurrentVersionProductKey is shown in the right pane.Or do a search on the Internet for "Magical Jelly Beans" which is a small utility that will read it for you.
Thanks for the info, found it now. All I have to do now is find the damn disc.
