deleting my iCloud account problem

Hi, Further to my earlier problem with mail on El Capitan I'm trying to find my way past the fact that my attempt to add my existing email account results in a report that the account already exists. There is another account which is for my iCloud account, which I don't use. When I reach the delete stage I am told that if I delete the icloud account I'll have to have a different password to open my Mac. As the only password I've used to open El Capitan is my Apple ID, am I going to be losing my Apple account if I delete the iCloud account?
