A free Lego set that never runs out: now you can build models in your web browser
Google has launched a virtual Lego building tool that lets you build anything you like and place it on Google Maps.
For free, you now have an infinitely large box of Lego with all the bricks you need – in the right colour – to create a model of whatever you want.
All you need is a web browser and an internet connection. Simply head to www.buildwithchrome.com and the easy-to-use interface lets you get building.
We’ve done the hard work for you and played with our virtual Lego in Chrome on a Windows 8 laptop, as well as in Safari on an iMac and the WebGL tool works well on both. Whether it will work on your Android tablet is debatable. It will certainly need “high-end graphics capabilities” according to Google.
And it’s bad news for iPad owners. Even in Chrome on the iPad, you’ll get an error message “It looks like your computer or web browser doesn’t support the advanced web technologies used in the build project”.
There is a series of tutorials - the Build Academy - featuring characters and buildings from the upcoming Lego movie.
