We've been to check out Nintendo's upcoming games line-up including Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U. Watch our hands-on video above.

Since the game runs on the Wii U, it's a Mario world in Full HD. The game plays similar to other 3D Mario games like Mario Galaxy – minus the gravity dynamics in that particular case. Anyone who has played a Mario platformer before will feel right at home with the controls.

The game supports up to four players simultaneously – one on the GamePad and the remaining three on Wii Remotes. You can play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach or Toad. Each has a unique ability such as Luigi's trademark high jump and Peach can glide using her dress.

A new cat suit allows you to do things like climb up walls and attack in mid-air. New mechanics include transparent pipes and vertical conveyor belts. It's fun but nothing we can exactly call mind-blowing.

Unfortunately there's little fun to be had with the Wii U GamePad's touchscreen. You can search for hidden blocks and freeze enemies. You can also go for a handheld experience playing solely on the GamePad's screen without a TV.

Fortunately, unlike Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World will arrive in December so at least you can get some new Mario gaming in this Christmas.
