Today we've headed out in central London to take a look at Nintendo's upcoming games line-up; first up is Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U. Check out our hands-on video above.

Mario Kart 8 is the first of the franchise to come in Full HD resolution and in this sense the game looks better than ever.

A major key feature to point out is anti-gravity racing. This doesn't mean you float around aimlessly; rather you can drive on the ceiling or walls creating a new dynamic to the circuits – not to mention new routes.

This took us a while to get used to - a little bit nauseating at first - but we quite like the idea. There's also 12 person online multi-player support which can only be a good thing. Like Mario Kart 7 there are hang gliders and underwater racing, plus motorbikes make a return. Waluigi and Toadette are back, too.

There isn't a great deal of use for the GamePad's touchscreen, namely a huge button to toot your horn. We like that you can choose to play with the gyroscope or the joystick.

So, Mario Kart 8 is great fun (I personally don't think the N64 version will ever be topped but oh well), however, we're all in for a long wait to get our mits on it. While the PS4 and Xbox One will arrive in time for Christmas, Mario Kart 8 won't tip up until Spring 2014.

Happy waiting!
