GTA 5 Online

Rockstar Games has announced GTA 5 Online, a multiplayer online world for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V. Here are the details on release date, features and some screenshots.

GTA 5 Online: Release date

Anyone who buys GTA 5 will get free access to Grand Theft Auto Online when it launches on 1 October. The main game will be released on 17 September.

GTA 5 Online: Features

GTA Online includes key features such as up to 16 to play at the same time within the GTA 5 world. This world is 'persistent' and 'continually expanding', says Rockstar including structured and un-structured activities plus redesigned game mechanics.

Since there can be up to 16 payers at once, you have the choice to roam on your own or form a crew or a gang. There will also be classic online modes.

Players can customise their character's appearance, improving stats, customised vehicles, purchasing personal property, and take part in missions, jobs and activities to earn reputation and cash to open up new opportunities to rise through the criminal ranks.

One feature we particularly like is the ability to design and map out your own races and deathmatches with a content creator.

Rockstar said: "In Grand Theft Auto Online, you'll have the freedom to explore alone or with friends, work cooperatively to complete missions, band together to participate in activities and ambient events, or compete in traditional game modes with the entire community, all with the personality and refined mechanics of Grand Theft Auto V."
