As soon as HMV had called in admiration firm Deloitte it outraged customers by continuing to trade in stores but refuse gift cards. Many customers had received the vouchers as Christmas present or purchased them right up until the day before HMV announced its collapse.

Deloitte said it was happy to honour the gift vouchers held by customers after assessing HMV's financial situation. It also said money raised from charity releases would be paid properly and in full.

Things are looking up for the retailer as according to Deloitte there have been a total of 50 separate individuals or groups who have shown interest in buying part, or all, of HMV.

The frontrunner, according to the BBC is Hilco, a restructuring specialist which bought HMV Canada last year for £2m. HMV in the UK has over 200 stores and 4,000 jobs at risk.
