Microsoft plans to launch Windows 7 by the end of 2009.

Doug Howe, Microsoft director, made the announcement during a conference is the US last week.

Howe told CNET: "Definitely the holiday focus is going to be on [Windows] 7".

Microsoft plans to ship Windows 7 mid-way through 2009 so it will be on machines that ship for the 2009 Christmas buying season. It was previously thought Windows 7 would ship in 2010.
