Lexmark  has unveiled two new SmartSolutions apps for its Platinum, Pinnacle, Prestige and Interact web-connected all-in-one (AIO) printers.

The Scan to Box SmartSolution, which has been developed in conjunction with Box.net, lets users scan documents from their Lexmark printer and save them straight to their Box.net account, which can be accessed from any PC with an internet connection, without the need for a PC.

The printer manufacturer has also made the Forms and Templates SmartSolutions app available. This app allows users to print different types of paper from their device, without the need for a PC. For example, the app offers a template for graph and lined paper, as well as blank sheet music and wall calendars.

Lexmark said the app will updated with additional forms and templates including stationery, fax cover sheets and certificates, next month.

"Lexmark SmartSolutions add even more functionality to their web-connected touchscreen devices and, once downloaded, can even be accessed without the rigmarole of starting up the PC or lapto," said Tony Lomax, product marketing manager, Lexmark.

"People want accessibility when it comes to documents and information, and these two solutions are just two of the applications on offer from Lexmark that give users the chance to dip into documents on their network, and draw up forms to send to print, all from the easily accessible touchscreen or in a couple of simple steps."

Both apps can be downloaded for free from Lexmark's dedicated web page. Users can also download a number of other SmartSolutions, which are designed to increase productivity and efficiency. The apps include offerings from TripIt and Evernote.
