Two thirds of IT staff have admitted they would take confidential information when they leave their current employer, says Cyber-Ark Software.
According to the security software firm's 'Trust, Security and Passwords' study, 87 percent of IT staff know they have no right to this information. Just 26 percent said they'd never take the information.
Furthermore, a quarter of IT staff do not have their use of privileged accounts monitored, while 48 percent of workers believe the IT department is most likely to snoop on a company's network for confidential information.
"These statistics highlight all too clearly the ever present danger that exists within an organisation today," said Adam Bosnian of Cyber-Ark.
"If the appropriate steps are not taken, organisations could find themselves with their most valued asset – their data – walking out the door and into the hands of the competition."
