Huawei is leading Europe towards a 5G wireless future and rightly so as these technologies are required to support the evolution of the very quickly expanding wireless world.
5G wireless networks are expected to emerge in the market between 2020 and 2030 in order to support the continuous growth of wireless business and Huawei is helping Europe to tap opportunities related to this trend.
The global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider points out that a 1,000-times increase in the demand for wireless capacity will be seen over the next decade.
This burgeoning growth will result in new business opportunities for the service providers that will enable users to access the wireless network at a speed of 10Gbps.
"5G wireless will, first of all, open the frontiers of a new end-user experience," said Dr. Wen Tong, Huawei fellow and the head of Huawei Communications Technologies Labs. "5G wireless will also wirelessly connect an enormous number of 'things' to the network. "Therefore, in combination with cloud computing and big data technologies, we can essentially automate the entire society."
100 times faster
5G wireless technologies is touted to allow every person to access the wireless network 100 times faster than the fastest mobile device on the market today.
Huawei has engaged its researchers to explore and develop 5G and it is actively participating in eco-system collaborations, such as the METIS project.
Co-funded by the European Commission, the METIS is an Integrated Project under the Seventh Framework Programme for research and development. Huawei sponsored a METIS project meeting in Munich, which will facilitate the launch of 5G wireless.
5G is good but there is still a long way to go till this technology is as widely used as 4G and because of this reason, researchers at Huawei are currently involved in the study of the new radio link technologies and new radio access network architecture.
"We are also working on prototyping and have conducted field trials on cloud-based radio access networks (so called Cloud-RAN). We are playing a leading role in 5G wireless technology development," added Dr. Tong.
