Late on Friday last week T-Mobile USA announced that it had ceased sales of its new Sidekick Slide - in the US at least. Existing customers were urged to return their handsets to the T-Mobile store they bought them from.

The T-Mobile Sidekick Slide was supposed to be launched in the UK this month, but so far T-Mobile stores have been devoid of the latest Sidekick. A notice on the T-Mobile website says that the phone is temporarily unavailable.

According to the T-Mobile USA statement, the Sidekick Slide was pulled after handset manufacturer Motorola confirmed that some devices may power off when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed.

The T-Mobile Sidekick Slide is free when purchased on the Flext 30 plus Web'n'walk tariff. When PC Advisor's US sister title PC World spent some time with the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide, editors reported that they liked its slider mechanism and slightly more compact size, as compared with other Sidekicks.

In its advisory notice, T-Mobile goes on to say that Motorola is working to identify the root cause of the power cycle issue; however, the company doesn't give an estimate as to when we can expect sales to resume.
