Pictures of the highly-anticipated Sony PlayStation phone have been leaked on the web.

Engadget posted the images online of the Google-Android based handset.

According to the website, the PlayStation Phone will be powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 and run the next version of Google Android, version 3.0, which has been nicknamed Gingerbread.

Users will also benefit from 512MB of memory, 1GB of storage space and a screen, which Engadget claims is between 3.7in and 4.1in. The pictures indicate the phone features a sliding section, which is thought to include a multitouch pad and gaming buttons similar to those on existing PlayStation controllers.

Users will be able to download games from a special version of the Sony Marketplace, although there's no news on the phone will be able to run existing PSP games.

The handset is expected to hit the market some time next year.

Sony has yet to comment on the speculation.
