According to the web traffic analyst, in February 2009 one in every 35 internet visits by Brits was to a video site, compared to one in every 50 the previous year.
Hitwise also revealed that YouTube is the UK's favourite video site. It accounted for 62.9 percent of traffic to all video sites in February 2009.
It was closely followed by the BBC's iPlayer site, which attracted 152.1 percent more traffic in February 2009 compared to the same period last year.
"Video is now a key component of the online landscape in the UK", said Robin Goad, director of UK research at Hitwise.
"Three years ago YouTube was still in its infancy and slow connections meant that online video wasn't a viable option for manyiInternet users. Since then UK internet traffic to video sites has increased 37-fold."
