Oracle is known to be big in Fusion applications, running the same codebase on the cloud or on premise. Oracle has invested US $14 billion into their cloud strategies and wants to deliver cloud services as a solution to legacy technology systems. Today (14th January 2013), Oracle held its first Global CloudWorld conference at the Midnat Jemeirah Hotel in Dubai which was attended by delegates, mostly IT executives and businessmen from all over the world.

During the conference, Oracle also announced the launch of the company's Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solution that will be rolled out all over the world. This solution enables organizations to deploy fully integrated engineered systems.

Mark Hurd, Oracle President said the cloud architecture is being driven by globalization, data volumes, mobile, social business, and modernization trends. This means in two years the world will experience a multiple growth of data where some of it will be worthless and organizations need to figure out and get wisdom out of it. 

"Currently 9 billion devices are hooked on the Internet, 50 billion will be in 2020 caused by big data, and gradually mobility and information technology will continues to create a challenge, we will not handle unless we prepare early enough", says Hurd. All this are centered on the cloud environment.

During the CloudWorld opening ceremony, Hurd pointed out some of the enterprise imperatives; he said 65% of companies say social media is a risk to their brand reputation, because the cloud environment has opened up and narrowed down communication in business to customer (B2C) engagements. However business to business, business to customers relationships are slowly fading off and person to person (P2P) are emerging, more individuals want to meet each other in cloud enabled spaces.

In addition, organizations have begun to accept supporting mobile devices in their corporate IT architecture; this has been made easy by cloud environments. This will lead to the convergence of five big trends underway: Big data, unified communications, mobile, cloud and social business. The company is therefore focusing on the future by helping its customers to leverage mostly on integrated technology and propel their performance, through focusing on transformational Innovation and not just incremental innovation. 

With the number of internet users today exceeding 2 billion worldwide, a standards-based cloud infrastructure enables companies to modernize at a gradual pace as modern and legacy element coexist, training both IT staff and end-users as they go along, because this growth extents into the corporate world, more and more devices will be introduced into the corporate IT system sockets. As global internet penetration is estimated to grow from 35.3 percent at the end of 2012 to 42.8 percent by the end of 2016, systems need to keep up with this velocity and its undertaking. 

Mobility on the other hand is un-tethering individuals from needing to be at any particular place in order to be productive. In 2011, 420 million smartphones and 14 million tablets shipped. In 2016, those numbers will balloon to one billion and 96 million, respectively. Hurd says with such numbers, the company has build most of its social environment capability on applications running on the cloud, social needs to be part of the DNA of any technology processes being developed today.

Hurd gave an example of Chicago Police who use one of Oracle Social capabilities to collect tweets about areas with a lot of violence in the city and address them; this tool makes their work more efficient. Companies should have their cultures ready for social and mobile impacts on the cloud. 

Oracle predicts that by the end of this year (2013) 87% of global 2000 companies will run at least one core process on the cloud. The company offers its partners opportunities to Refer, Resell, Build & Implement its cloud solutions and offer analytics, social and mobile applications on the cloud which they believe not many cloud provides do normally referred to as a two dimension architecture.
