Opera has made its Opera Mini 5.1 mobile browser available for Windows Mobile handsets.

The mobile web browser, which has already been released for Java, Android and BlackBerry handsets, offers Windows Mobile users functions such as tabbed browsing and speed dial, a feature that provides direct access to favourites via thumbnail images on the start page.

Mobile web users will be able to view high-resolution images on web pages, as well as benefitting from improved page layouts and support for auto-rotation.

Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile also compresses data by up to 90 percent before sending content to the phone, which Opera says speeds up browsing over low-bandwidth data connections.

"The new Opera Mini is particularly vibrant and really takes advantage of high resolution screens. And, now that you can set Opera Mini as your default browser on a Windows Mobile phone, it is much easier to enjoy the speed boost and data compression," said Jon von Tetzchner, co-founder, Opera Software.

Visit Opera's dedicated mobile site to download Opera Mini 5.1. The new web browser is compatible with handsets running Windows Mobile 2003 SE, Windows Mobile 5.x and Windows Mobile 6.x.
