Henley-on-Thames and Marlow are among some of the UK's most sought-after areas, yet they receive very poor broadband speeds, says Top 10 Broadband.

According to research by the broadband comparison website, the average broadband connection speed in Marlow and Henley-on-Thames is under 500Kbps. This is dramatically lower than the average UK speed of 3.6Mbps.

Alex Buttle, marketing director of Top 10 Broadband, said: "If you thought that poor broadband coverage was confined to windswept crofters in remote villages in the Scottish Highlands, think again."

Top 10 Broadband recommends users rely on mobile broadband. In trials by the website, Vodafone's mobile broadband service on average offered connection speeds of 2.62Mbps in Henley and Marlow - five times the average fixed line speed.

"Thanks to [former Henley-on-Thames resident] George Harrison's band The Beatles, we've known for a long time that money can't buy you love. Our research shows it's no guarantee of a good home broadband service either."
