The free website allows users to search for their favourite films from a database of over 2300,000 movie across 20 genres and over 60 languages. It then allows users to click straight through to either book cinema tickets for the movie, or purchase it on DVD or legally download the file. The UK Film Council is hoping the website will help stamp out illegal file-sharing.
As well as searching by title, users can also input a mood, location or even a keyword such as 'fairytale ending' to search for movies. Users can also access trailers for films, and details about new and forthcoming movies.
"This new site is going to transform how consumers find the films they want to watch. We will soon wonder how we ever coped without it!" said Peter Buckingham, head of distribution and exhibition at the UK Film Counci.
"Like a Google for films, it is the first time anything like this has been delivered on the Internet that indexes all available films in the UK and is totally free to use."
