Google has launched a film rental service for Brits with smartphones and tablet PCs running Google Android.

The service, which is available via Google's own app store – the Android Market - is offering around 1,000 movies including news releases such as The Green Lantern, Fast Five and Wrecked.

Prices start from £2.49 and users are given 30 days to watch the movie, but they have just 48 hours from first starting playback to complete their viewing.

Users will also need to install the Video app before they can begin watching a film.

Google initially launched the movie rental service in the US in May.
