Space Invaders Infinity Gene, despite using relatively simple visuals, managed to be spectacular both to look at and listen to. Creator Reisuke Ishida's latest game, newly released on the App Store, follows that trend with a new rhythm action game.

Groove Coaster uses simple controls, requiring only that the player tap anywhere on the screen in time with various beat markers touching the player's avatar. Occasionally there's the requirement to hold your finger on the screen other than tap, but besides this, that's all you have to worry about. Sounds easy enough, until you play the game. Unlike many rhythm games, you're not following a simple, straight path here -- you're riding a twisting, turning rollercoaster that bends around corners, zigzags in curious patterns and moves in every direction. Couple this with the minimalist but distractingly attractive backgrounds and you've got quite a job on your hands to stay in time with the music, particularly on higher difficulty levels.

The game is 67% off right now, meaning you can get it for just $0.99. There's a number of optional in-app purchases, including new avatars, additional music tracks and consumable bonus items, but the game with no extras contains plenty of content to keep you occupied as well as full support for Game Center leaderboards and achievements.

Interested? Check it out via the App Store. You'll need an iPhone 3GS or better running iOS 4.2 or higher to play.
