Nintendo's revealed some details about Skyward Sword's plot and characters, giving players keen to find out more about Link's latest adventure a taste of what to expect. Apparently Skyward Sword features a number of plot elements that lay the foundation for the rest of the series -- including how the iconic Master Sword was created.
The game opens in the floating island town of Skyloft, where Link is set to take part in a bird-flying competition. The winner will get the opportunity to take part in a special ceremony with Zelda.
Skyward Sword's Zelda and Link have been friends since childhood, and have always shared a special bond. The events of the new game will shed light on their relationship and what they mean to one another.
The early hours of Skyward Sword see Link's nemesis at school -- a kid named Groose -- doing what he can to bully our hero. He's jealous of Link and Zelda's special bond, it seems, and initially aims to foil Link's plans to win the bird-flying competition.
Meanwhile, Zelda's father Gaepora, the headmaster of Link's school, knows many legends regarding Skyloft, and his stories look set to inspire many of Link's adventures.
Early in Link's travels, he'll come across Fi, the spirit of the Goddess Sword. Fi will guide Link through a series of quests which will eventually result in the creation of the Master Sword -- and presumably then something terrible happening which requires its use to stab Evil in its sensitive areas.
Skyward Sword is out on November 20. It'll be available as either a standalone game or a bundle with a gold-colored Wii Remote Plus controller, which features a Motion Plus addon built in. Every copy in the first run will also include a music CD containing orchestral arrangements of music performed in the Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary symphony concert.
