Riot Games' League of Legends is soon to get a new game mode. Dubbed "Dominion," the game style is based around capture-and-hold gameplay rather than the standard game mode's base-assaulting action.
Dominion mode takes place on a new map known as the Crystal Scar, described as a "highly contested, war-torn mining village." New artwork has been designed for the map, so it should provide a distinct experience from the traditional Summoner's Rift setting.
Riot Games claims that the new game mode sees matches lasting around 20 minutes, making it more quick-play friendly and allowing players to get straight into the action. The nature of the competition in Dominion Mode means that the outcome is always in question and it's entirely possible for beleaguered sides to stage a full-scale comeback.
Best of all, like League of Legends itself, Dominion mode will be free to play. Players will be able to use all their existing skills, equipment and unlocked characters on the new map.
Dominion mode will be on show for the first time at Gamescom and PAX Prime later this month.
