Soccer is very much a global phenomenon, and it's this fact that EA is hoping to represent through the soundtrack to its upcoming FIFA 12, due to release on September 27.
The track listing seen in the game brings together 39 well known and breakthrough artists from England, Sweden, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Chile, Spain, the U.S. and numerous others to create what EA's worldwide executive of music and marketing Steve Schnur calls a "true international showcase that embodies dozens of nations and virtually every genre of music." Schnur claims that EA wants "to bring the world closer together by uniting the global cultures of football and music." That may be something of a hyperbolic statement, but it certainly makes for a diverse soundtrack, covering, as it does, the musical output of 15 different countries.
Headlining the music offering for FIFA 12 are Kasabian, The Ting Tings, CSS, Chase & Status, TV On The Radio, Foster the People, The Strokes and Thievery Corporation. Also waiting to assault your ears are international artists including Holland's The Medics, Brazil's Bloco Bleque, New Zealand's Naked & Famous, Sweden's Little Dragon and American indie groups GIVER, Grouplove and the curiously-punctuated Portugal. The Man, among others.
FIFA 12 will be available in North America on September 27 and worldwide on September 30. A demo is available from today for 360, PS3 and PC, and holders of an EA Sports Season Ticket will get access to the full FIFA 12 game three days prior to launch. Remember, though, you still need to buy a retail copy if you want to keep on playing after launch day!
