F.E.A.R. 3 features four main multiplayer modes, according to publisher Warner Bros., and they sound a little different from your regular old deathmatch. A wise decision, as it takes a lot to pry people away from the Call of Duty and Halo titles of the world.

The delightfully-named F**king Run! mode tasks players with pushing their way through enemy forces and reaching checkpoints before Alma's Wall of Death catches up with anyone. Alma's Wall of Death, apparently, was inspired by the cover of John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

Contractions mode is a Horde-style mode that tasks players with collecting weapons, building barricades and dealing with floods of enemies that coincide with Alma's contractions. Each wave sees a "paranormal fog" roll in thicker and deeper, too. This mode is apparently inspired by John Carpenter's The Fog. Someone at Day 1 Studios has been on a horror kick recently, it seems.

The pun-tastic Soul Survivor apparently "adds a twist to the cooperative gaming experience." During team-based survival gameplay, Alma will corrupt one of the players and task them with corrupting the rest of the F.E.A.R. squad. This mode is apparently inspired by Steve Niles' 30 Days of Night.

Finally, Soul King mode puts players in the spectral shoes of a ghost. They can possess human enemies which can be used to kill AI enemies and other players, and the winner is the one who collects the most souls. This mode is inspired by Casper The Friendly Ghost.

F.E.A.R. 3 is due out on the 27th of next month.
