Every big studio has their fair share of cancelled projects and games that will never see the light of day. But as I've learned in countless developer interviews, once those projects get changed or canned, there's little chance of ever unearthing the old stuff.

Fortunately, some of the guys at Irrational aren't quite so wasteful. In an update on the company's official blog today, they revealed some of the assets for for Dungeon Duel, a project from way back in 2002. The game was supposed to "combine fast-paced RTS strategy with the addictiveness of card game trading in a unique fantasy setting -- a true RTS game built specifically with consoles and their controllers in mind."

While they don't provide any reasons for why the game never made it further in development, it's still fun to see the process that such a talented development goes through. Head on over to the blog to check out the original pitch in pdf form, as well as even more concept art.
