Steve Jobs and a crack team of turtleneck-clad Apple execs will open the company's annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 6 with a keynote presentation at 10:00am. During the keynote, Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion", iOS 5 and iCloud, "Apple's upcoming cloud services offering" will be revealed.

New Apple OS and service announcements at WWDC are nothing new, but the timing of the keynote this time could be seen to be more than a coincidence -- Apple's presentation takes place at 10:00am PT, half an hour after Microsoft kicks off its own press conference at E3. Apple has been placing growing importance on the role of gaming in its marketing for the iPod touch and iPad in particular, and the new Mac App Store provides a convenient digital outlet for Mac games for both casual and core players.

The timing could be completely coincidental, but it's more likely Apple is making some significant announcements during a period when the tech and gaming industries are already paying very close attention to the news.
