Details of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch have been rumoured for a while now but we've got a first glimpse of the device courtesy of Venture Beat. The photo shows a huge smartphone-like device with a wrist strap. See also: Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch to launch next month.
Venture Beat said: "We've been speaking with sources to separate fact from fiction. And this weekend, a source showed us one of the prototypes sent to developers and a few select partners. Note that Samsung is highly security conscious in protecting its designs, and occasionally sends off prototypes that don’t mirror the final design. But it won't be far off."
As well as a good look at the device, plenty of other details have come out from the leak including some juicy specs. See also: Apple iWatch, Samsung Galaxy Smart Watch, Google Nexus Smart Watch rumour round-up.
It's supposedly a 3 in device, with a square touchscreen and chunky top and bottom bezels. It will connect to Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets (and potentially other Android devices) via Bluetooth.
Putting it in competition with Google Glass is a 4 Mp camera which is built into the strap and it also has tiny speakers in the clasp. It also has Wi-Fi, and based on screenshots leaked by @evleaks it sports NFC, too.
The Galaxy Gear will also feature S Voice commands, fitness tracking, call-logging and more.
It is expected that Samsung will fully unveil the Galaxy Gear smartwatch this week at its pre-IFA Unpacked 2013 Episode 2 event alongside the Galaxy Note 3.
