Were you one of those kids whose childhood was defined by the opening theme music to the Star Wars trilogies? Geeks everywhere will be rejoicing once they found out about this amazing Lego musical contraption on display in various German cinemas.
An enormous 20,000 Lego bricks were used in order to create the Star Wars barrel organ, which features four scenes from the movies: the Death Star, Hoth, Endor and Tatooine. As the carefully-arranged Lego barrel is rotated, the tallest bricks in the scene strike certain keys on the keyboard, causing the organ to produce the classic tune, composed by John Williams.
The barrel promotes both Lego Star Wars sets and the new 3D Star Wars: Episode I, and any cinema-goer can have a go turning it. The QR Code to the right of the setup simply takes you to the Lego Star Wars page, where you can buy any of the sets incorporated into the barrel.
The creation by Serviceplan Campaign has so far toured Germany since January, but sadly there is no word just yet on whether it will be visiting any more countries. Still, the level of detail and the way in which everything is so carefully ordered on the machine is incredible. The best of the scenes has to be the jungle of Endor though!
Visit Serviceplan Campaign's website for a gallery of all the four scenes, or check out the video below to see the making of the Star Wars barrel:
