From today, Virgin Media customer can get access to BT Sport's trio of channels.
In what the firm is calling a 'landmark deal', BT Sport is now available for free and in HD for some Virgin Media subscribers. With Sky Sports also available, it said Virgin TV is the only place for every major UK sports channel in one subscription. See also: BT Sport review.
Dana Strong, chief operating officer at Virgin Media, said: "Virgin Media homes are kicking-off the new season with the most complete sporting line-up around in one simple subscription, from Barclays Premier League football and Aviva Premiership rugby to F1, live golf and the culmination of a great Ashes series."
"We’re excited to announce our deal with BT, making these fantastic new channels available at no extra cost to millions of Virgin TV viewers and in HD as standard."
Those with Virgin TV XL will get all the BT Sport channels (BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN plus HD versions) for free on channels 529 – 530 and 547 – 500. Meanwhile others on lower grade packages, TV M, TV M+ or TV L, can subscribe for £15 per month to get the six BT Sport channels.
Virgin said that the BT Sport channels are also be available via its Virgin TV Anywhere service for smartphones, tablets and online.
The deal comes just in time for the start of the Premier League season which is one of the main draws of BT Sport. It will show 38 matches with 18 exclusive 'top pick' games. Other sports include Aviva Premiership rugby and Women's Tennis Association.
