Scanners may have fallen out of vogue due to the dominance of digital cameras and email, but they are still the best means of inputting hard-copy documents. PaperPort and ReadIRIS Pro are two solutions aimed at making it easier to manage and edit scanned documents.
Nuance's PaperPort 11.0 Professional is designed to help organise scanned documents. It allows the creation and sharing of PDFs and includes basic OCR (optical character recognition), enhancement software and search technology to locate and organise files, email and web pages.
ReadIRIS Pro 11.0 is a pure OCR tool, although it offers PDF creation and conversion, too. It recognises 21 different languages and boasts specialised recognition tasks, such as handwriting and barcodes.
