Evesham Technology was up for sale as we went to press, with TimeUK founder Tahir Mohsan, who set up a rescue package for the troubled PC maker last summer, claiming to have "successfully completed" the "restructuring" of the firm.

Evesham's woes came to light last August when the PC maker officially declared that it had gone into receivership following several months of speculation. However, the brand continued trading under the auspices of Geemore Technology following a $22m investment from Mohsan.

Richard Austin, Evesham's founder, told PC Advisor last September that it was "business as usual" at the new Evesham, and said the company planned to focus on high-end PCs. "This business is still ethically Evesham," he said.

However, Austin left the company in January 2008, and PC Advisor has since received several complaints from readers regarding Evesham's customer service. An Evesham spokesman told us warranties that came with systems bought before 3 August 2007 are no longer being honoured. Those left without a warranty should seek a third-party support firm should anything go wrong with their system, he added. All new PCs sold since August last year ship with a for one-year return-to-base warranty, we were told.

Mohsan said the Geemore would continue selling PCs under the Evesham brand regardless of whether a buyer can be found, but added the company "may be reduced to a smaller operation with lower overheads".

One of the UK's biggest and most enduring PC retailers, Evesham Technology was founded 23 years ago selling PCs under the Evesham Vale brand. As the business grew, it expanded from its Warwickshire headquarters with a string of high-street shops. Until recently Evesham enjoyed a reputation for excellence in customer service.
