EE broadband available to UK

Previously only available to its mobile customers, EE has now opened up its home broadband to anyone in the UK. The mobile operators cheapest deal is £2.50 per month for the first year which offers speeds of up to 17Mbps. See alsoHow to test your internet speed.

Traditionally the first year would be half price but this is almost a quarter of the usual monthly cost of £9.95. If you want faster download speeds, a 38Mbps fibre service is available for just £5 per month for the first three months then £19.95 afterwards.

An even faster fibre broadband package is available from £15 per month. Once again, that price is valid for three months and will then jump to £29.95.

Customers will be provided with a Bright Box router. All of EE's broadband packages include unlimited downloads and are either 12- or 18 months in contract length. ReadGroup test: what's the best wireless router?

As you might expect, you will have to pay a line rental charge on top of the broadband fee which currently stands at £15.75 per month. However, if you pay £132 upfront it works out at £11 per month.

Ewan Taylor-Gibson, broadband expert at, said: "EE widening its broadband offering to all should give the market a shake up, particularly with the lure of perks like two for one cinema tickets and Pizza Express vouchers on top of very competitively priced broadband."

"But EE's really going for the jugular with its £100 buy-out promise. This has been around for a while, but it’s only now EE's really shouting about it. It means that people unhappy with their current service but locked into a contract will be able to wriggle out of it - with EE footing the bill."
