Apple is expected to host a media event in New York at the end of January, but it won't be for the launch of the Apple iPad 3.

Tech website AllThingsD cited several sources that "underscored that the event is not related to an upcoming version of the iPad 3". Furthermore the event, which is thought to be hosted by Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President of internet software and services, will not see the launch of the next iteration of Apple TV either. Despite the fact both products are rumoured to be launching sometime in 2012. According to AllThingsD, the launch of Apple TV is "almost certainly be held in the heart of the industry in Hollywood or at least in Silicon Valley".

The website also speculates that because Cue is in charge of the likes of the iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, iAd and iCloud, the event is likely to cover these area and may even be an advertising or publishing announcement. For example, Cue hosted Apple's launch of News Corp.'s online magazine, The Daily, in New York last year.

Apple has declined to comment on the speculation.
